BERKELEY, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis' two doubles pairings came up short in the round of 32 on Friday morning at the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Championships. Sophomore Robert Seby will play in the round of 32 singles match tonight at 8:30 p.m. PT.

Freshman Jesus Tapiador Barajas and sophomore Kamran Khan faced off against No. 3 seed Andre Goransson and Billy Griffith (California) and lost, 8-2.

"I thought it was a great opportunity for them to see that level of play," head coach Niall Angus said. "I think early in the match they were a little bit shocked at the level they were presented with. As the match went on they got more comfortable and grew into it. Now they have seen the standard and it is something to shoot for. It was a great test, they enjoyed the match and they will move forward."

Sophomore Connor Garnett and Seby came up short against No. 6 seed Euan McIntosh and Yousef Hassan (Fresno State), 8-6. All of the doubles matches on Friday morning were played indoors due to rain in the area.

"They played a very solid team, those guys (FSU) have been together for a few years and are a good doubles team," Angus said. "We played pretty aggressive and that's what we've been working on. We didn't lose that match because we weren't aggressive enough, which is good to see. A few points here and there and the result may have been different. I think we are just as good as them. We'll benefit from today's experience."

No. 17 seed Seby matched up against No. 3 seed Billy Griffith of California late Friday night and could not pull off the upset, falling 6-2, 6-4.
