BERKELEY, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis won four of its six consolation round robin matches on Saturday at the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Championships. Action resumes on Sunday at 10 a.m. PT at California's Hellman Tennis Complex.
Freshman Vasileios Iliopoulos was victorious over Louis Chabut (Sacramento State), 6-4, 6-4. Junior Max Heerinckx comfortably defeated West Coast Conference foe Calvin Jordaan (St. Mary's), 6-1, 6-2. Sophomore Andrew Gu won, 7-5, 6-4, in a close match over another WCC opponent, Lance Ngo (Pacific). Sophomore Connor Garnett handedly beat Matt Alderson (Seattle), 6-1, 6-1.
Freshman Jesus Tapiador Barajas and sophomore Kamran Khan came up short in their singles matches. Barajas fell to David Goulak (UC Davis), 6-2, 6-0, while Khan lost a three-set battle, 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (6) to Piers Foley (Washington).
