Men’s Tennis Adds Jordan Angus as Volunteer Assistant

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis has added Jordan Angus, the younger brother of head coach Niall Angus, to the staff as a volunteer assistant coach. Angus adds more championship experience to the Broncos as a two-time West Coast Conference Champion at the University of San Diego.

"It's a fantastic opportunity to have somebody so close to me be here," head coach Niall Angus said. "But, more importantly, somebody who knows the game of tennis and has championship experience. Coming from USD and winning two conference championships there, we're hoping to bring that over to Santa Clara."

Angus had an impressive collegiate tennis career, competing at Mississippi State in his first two years and at San Diego his last two years. His career-high Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) ranking in singles was No. 24 (Feb. 10, 2016) and in doubles was No. 6 at Mississippi State (Sept. 6, 2013) and No. 7 at San Diego (Jan. 5, 2016).

"He will serve as a mentor to the team," Niall Angus said. "The team looks up to him and respect him. So far it's been incredible having him on the court and sharing his experiences. The ability to learn from him and ask him questions has been a good thing."

Angus was selected to the All-WCC first team twice (2015 – doubles, 2016 – singles) and he also earned second-team all-conference accolades (2015 – singles, 2016 – doubles) twice as well. He tied a USD record with 28 doubles wins for the 2016 season and he went 26-7 in singles play. He earned WCC All-Tournament team honors and advanced to the round of 16 at the 2016 NCAA Doubles Championships.

At USD, Angus has the third-most career doubles wins for a pair (34 with Filip Vittek) and the fourth-best career doubles winning percentage (.725, 50-19). In singles play, Angus owns the No. 5 ranked singles winning percentage (.769, 50-15).

The Broncos begin the 2017 dual match season on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 10 a.m. PT against Holy Names.
