SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis will square off against the Grand Canyon Lopes on Sunday at 10 a.m. PT at Degheri Tennis Center.

"It's always nice to get a weekend off but the danger is maintaining the moment you have," head coach Niall Angus said. "Due to the rain, we weren't able to keep our match run going but we did manage to have a very good week of practice. The guys came in and really worked hard and picked up where they left off."

The Broncos of Santa Clara enter the weekend at 6-1, with their lone loss on the year coming at Tulane, the No. 22 team in latest Division I Men's National Team Oracle/ITA Collegiate Rankings.

Sophomores Robert Seby and Connor Garnett (HYPERLINK) were named the WCC Men's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week for their performances against Nevada (Feb. 11) and UNLV (Feb. 12). The Broncos were able to claim the doubles point against UNLV for the first time in the previous three matches.

"The guys understand that it's all about backing it up week to week," Angus said. "We've done some different things in doubles and worked really hard on that so I'm looking for a good performance in doubles."

Seby boasts a 7-6 singles record for the year and is 5-2 on court one for the Broncos. Sophomore Andrew Gu is 4-2 playing on court two and has won seven of his last 10 matches. Garnett has gone 8-2 in his last 10 matches and is 6-1 on court three to start dual match play.

Freshman Jesus Tapiador Barajas owns a 4-1 record on court four for SCU. Freshman Vasileios Iliopoulos is 5-1 in match play (1-0 on court four and 4-1 on court five), including the clinching win for the Broncos at LSU (Feb. 3). Kamran Khan is 1-0 on court five this year and 3-1 on court six.

"I really want them to go out there and enjoy the battle of college tennis," Angus said. "These guys are starting to learn, get better and understand that so that's what I'm looking for."

Grand Canyon is 6-4 in dual match play this season. Lorenzo Fucile is 7-3 in his last 10 singles matches (1-0 on court three, 6-3 on court four) for the Lopes and has also partnered with Valentin Lang to win their last five doubles matches. Francois Musitelli is 5-2 on court one for GCU this season and has won six of his previous 10 matches.
