SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis will head on the road for the second time this season to face Weber State at 10 a.m. PT on March 3 and BYU at 4:30 p.m. on March 4 in its first West Coast Conference match of the season.

The Broncos of Santa Clara enter the weekend at 7-1, with their lone loss on the year coming at Tulane, the No. 20 team in latest Division I Men's National Team Oracle/ITA Collegiate Rankings.

Head coach Niall Angus mixed up the doubles squads last weekend against Grand Canyon and found success as the Broncos claimed the point by winning on courts one and two. Sophomore Robert Seby paired with freshman Jesus Tapiador Barajas (court one) while sophomore Connor Garnett played with freshman Vasileios Iliopoulos (court two).

"Our doubles has been constantly improving," Angus said. "We did mix up the teams and it has been successful so far and we expect that to improve as they continue to play more together."

Seby boasts an 8-6 overall singles record for the year and has won his last three singles matches to boast a 6-2 dual record on court one for the Broncos. Sophomore Andrew Gu is 5-2 playing on court two and has won seven of his last 10 matches. Garnett has gone 8-2 in his last 10 matches and is 7-1 on court three to start dual match play.

Freshman Jesus Tapiador Barajas owns a 4-2 record on court four for SCU. Freshman Vasileios Iliopoulos is 5-1 in match play (1-0 on court four and 4-1 on court five), including the clinching win for the Broncos at LSU (Feb. 3). Kamran Khan is 1-0 on court five this year and 3-1 on court six.

"First up is Weber State and I think it's important to not overlook that match," Angus said. "They are a good team who is well-coached and we will be playing on the road in altitude so that's something the guys will need to get used to. We're excited to get on the road again and compete."

Weber State is 4-4 on the season and 1-0 in Big Sky action. Shao-Po Yin is 3-5 for the Wildcats while Stefan Cooper is 4-1 on court two.

"When we play BYU we'll get our first taste of conference action, especially for the freshman," Angus said. "We'll playing against a very good BYU team in some difficult conditions. The guys are prepared and they've worked really hard over the last few weeks. The main thing is they are enjoying the battle of competition. When you enjoy competition, good things happen."

The match against BYU will take place at BYU's indoor tennis courts. The Cougars are 8-6 on the season. They fell to No. 23 Oregon last weekend but defeated No. 42 Drake. Jacob Sullivan is 9-2 in dual match play and Matthew Pearce is 8-5 to lead the squad.
