SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis lost 4-2 to Portland on Saturday at Degheri Tennis Center. Santa Clara earned the doubles point but the Pilots came back to win four singles matches for the victory.
The Broncos (10-3, 0-2 WCC) picked up the doubles point over Portland (11-1, 1-0). Sophomore Robert Seby and freshman Jesus Tapiador Barajas clinched the doubles point for SCU with a 7-6 (7-4) win on court two. Sophomores Andrew Gu and Kamran Khan picked up a 6-2 victory on court three.
Tapiador Barajas earned the lone singles victory for SCU on court four by defeating Alex Wallace 6-4, 6-4. Portland claimed wins on courts one, three, five and six with court six clinching the victory. Sophomore Andrew Gu led 6-7, 7-5, 6-5 on court two but they did not finish the match.
Santa Clara returns to action on Sunday at 9 a.m. PT against Gonzaga in a home match.
