Men’s Tennis Hosts Grand Canyon And Sacramento State This Weekend
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis will look to extend its six match winning streak when it hosts Grand Canyon and Sacramento at the Degheri Tennis Center this weekend.  They face Grand Canyon at noon on Saturday, Feb. 24 and Sacramento State at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25.

The Broncos are coming off a hard fought 4-3 win on the road against UC Davis on Sunday.

"We played UC Davis under difficult conditions as it was really windy and it was a great test of mental strength for the players," said Broncos head coach Niall Angus.  "We lost the doubles point after being three match points up but used that as a springboard to push into singles."

Playing on court six, Kamran Khan clinched the match by coming from behind against Mitchell Iwahiro of UC Davis (4-8) to claim a 4-6, 6-2, 7-6(4) victory.

"We had Kam(ran) who was obviously the standout player in singles play.  He had a match in Portland last year where he lost the 4-3 match and this year to right it against UC Davis and come from in the third set to win it was really good for him," said Angus.  "I was really happy and proud of him.  It's given him the confidence and he's had a good week of training so far."

Saturday's opponent, Grand Canyon (4-2), has played a couple of West Coast Conference schools, Pacific and Saint Mary's.  On the road, the Antelopes beat Pacific, 4-3, on Feb. 16 and lost to Saint Mary's in 4-3.

The Broncos play Sacramento State (1-5) on Sunday.  The Hornets' lone win came against Northern Colorado on Feb. 9.

Andrew Gu and Connor Garnett are both 6-0 in singles play this season for the Broncos with Jesus Tapiador Barajas holding a 5-1 record.  In doubles play the duo of Gu and Robert Seby are 7-1 with Barajas and Vasileios Iliopoulos teaming up to post a 5-2 record.
