Men’s Tennis Looks To Extend Its Eight-Match Winning Streak At 49th-Ranked Cal Poly
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – With a pair of home wins last weekend against Grand Canyon and Sacramento State, the Santa Clara men's tennis extended its winning streak to eight matches.  The Broncos will look to carry that momentum when it travels to Cal Poly to take on the 49th-ranked Mustangs on Saturday at 1 p.m. PT.

"We've played well these last couple of weekends. The team did well in working hard all week and producing on the court but now it's about keeping that momentum going," said Bronco head coach Niall Angus.  "We're getting into the part of the season now where our competition jumps up a little bit.  This weekend's opponent, Cal Poly is ranked in the top-50 and we'll have Fresno State a week after that.  So we have a couple of tough matches coming up.  We're in a great position to try to take on the challenge and we're excited to get out and see what we can do."

The Broncos (8-2) are 20-7 in doubles play this season to go along with its 44-11 singles record.  Junior Andrew Gu is leading the way posting team best records playing on court No.1 in both doubles and singles.  In doubles, Gu is 8-1 teaming up with fellow junior Robert Seby.  Gu is undefeated in singles at 8-0.

"Andrew is a phenomenal talent.  I don't think sometimes even he believes how good he can be.  He's done fantastic since he's come to us as a freshman of working hard and getting into shape and now we're starting to see some of the rewards of his hard work.  The sky is the limit for him as long as he keeps his head down and works hard," said Angus.

Playing on court No. 2, Vasileios Iliopoulos and Jesus Tapiador Barajas have teamed up for a 7-2 doubles record.

Barajas and Connor Garnett are both 7-1 in singles play for the second best record on the team.

Cal Poly (7-4) is coming off a weekend split, losing to West Coast Conference's Loyola Marymount, 5-2, then beating Nevada, 5-2.
