Men’s Tennis Lose 4-2 On The Road To Gonzaga
SPOKANE, Wash. – Santa Clara men's tennis raced to a 2-0 lead winning the doubles point and a singles win from Connor Garnett but Gonzaga strung together four consecutive singles wins and lost 4-2 on Saturday at Stevens Center.  
 
In doubles play, the point came down to a tiebreak on court No. 2 after each team had won a match.  On court No. 1, the Bronco pair of Andrew Gu and Robert Seby defeated Hunter Egger and Sam Feit, 6-1, after losing on court No. 3.  
 
Broncos No.2 doubles team of Vasileios Iliopouls and Jesus Tapiador Barajas beat Vince Rettke and Kyle Everly's in a tiebreaker 7-6 (1) to clinch the doubles point.
 
Santa Clara (9-8, 1-3 WCC) carried the momentum at the start of singles play with Connor Garnett winning on court No.4 over Egger in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5.  
 
Gonzaga (9-6, 2-3 WCC) evened the match at 2-2 with Rettke beating Seby on court No. 3 and Feit taking care of Barajas 7-6 (5), 6-2 on court No. 2.  
 
On court No.5, the battle between Emilio Moreno and Iliopoulos went to three sets with Moreno prevailing 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 to give the Zags a 3-2 advantage.  
 
Bronco Kamran Khan playing in the sixth spot looked to extend the match but fell in three sets to Everly 7-6 (3), 2-6, 6-2 which clinched the match for Gonzaga.  
 
Santa Clara returns home to host BYU on Saturday and San Diego on Sunday.  The Sunday, April 8 match against the Toreros is senior day.
