Mathieu Named WCC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis was recognized by the West Coast Conference on Tuesday when senior Sebastien Mathieu was named the WCC Men's Tennis Player of the Week.  Santa Clara men's tennis (11-8, 3-3 WCC) won both conference matches over the weekend, beating BYU, 4-3, on Saturday and No.39 San Diego, 4-0, on Sunday with Mathieu getting the clincher in both.

Against BYU with the match tied 3-3, it came down to the third set of the singles match between Mathieu and BYU's David Ball on court No. 6.  After losing the first set, 4-6, the senior took the next two sets 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 to clinch the 4-3 win for the Broncos in his final home stand.

On Sunday's senior day against No.39 San Diego, where Mathieu was recognized prior to the match, the left-hander took down USD's Pratt Keerasuntonpon in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, on court No. 6 to clinch the 4-0 victory for the Broncos.

The London native has posted a 6-0 singles record in this season's dual matches and it is his first Player of the Week honor.
