Men’s Tennis Signs A World Top-300 Junior Ranked Player
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis head coach Niall Angus and his staff garnered the talents of a world top-300 junior player in Santiago Hinojosa from Mexico City.  Hinojosa has two International Tennis Federation grade 5 singles tournament wins in the Bahamas and Bermuda to his credit.

"We knew of Santiago through his match results, the fact that he had a really good international ranking in the juniors being in the top-300 in the world.  So we saw a lot of results and got to know him through that process and found that he was a really hard working, passionate young man especially about improving his tennis and reaching his potential.  Santiago is well rounded and humble and does his best operating in a team environment," said Angus.

Hinojosa is currently attending the ES International School in Naples, Florida, after moving from Mexico City at the age of 15.

"I chose Santa Clara because it feels just like home and provides me with an opportunity to excel academically and continue growing as a tennis player. In meeting with the coaching staff and the players, they have been extremely generous and clearly know how to work together to succeed and achieve a common goal for the University," said Hinojosa.

The right-handed Hinojosa also was a doubles finalist at the grade 4 ITF Tournament in Aruba.

"Santiago is a pretty aggressive baseliner.  He's solid off both wings with a good serve.  He likes to construct his points from the baseline and work his way up to the net.  He looks to be a player that's very stable mentally as well which is incredibly important in tennis since most of it is a mental game," said Angus in reference to Hinojosa's mental toughness and calmness under pressure.
