Aggie Invitational Draws/Results

DAVIS, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis doubles team of Kamran Khan and Santiago Hinojosa collected a championship in the B Draw of the Aggie Invitational on Sunday to top off a solid showing by the Broncos in the fall season opener.

During the course of the three-day tournament, the Broncos racked up 17 singles and six doubles wins with Khan pacing the way having a hand in six of those wins.

Khan, the senior left-hander, and Hinojosa, a right-handed freshman, competed like a veteran twosome despite playing in the first tournament together, defeating Portland's Andew Newell and Nicklas Oberg, 8-7(4) to win the championship.  Last season, Khan finished the fall with the best doubles record on the team going 7-3.

The senior from Dallas, carried the momentum from the doubles championship into the singles round when he advanced to the B Draw finals by beating Sacramento State's Louis Chabut in straight sets 7-5, 7-6(2) in the semis.  However, Khan fell to Abhishek Bastola, 7-6(2), 6-1, in the finals.

In the singles A Draw, Connor Garnett played Portland's Carlos Donat in the semifinal round but lost 7-5, 6-4.

Khan, Garnett and newcomer Arthur Neuhaus each picked up three singles wins apiece in the tournament to lead the team.

Next up for the Broncos is the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Championships in Seattle from Oct. 11 – 15.
