SEATTLE – Santa Clara men's tennis senior Andrew Gu's run in the ITA Fall Northwest Regional Championships ended with a loss in the quarterfinal match against Stanford's William Genesen on Sunday.
Gu lost to Genesen in three sets, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2, and finished as one of eight quarterfinalists in the 121-player singles draw in the biggest tournament the Broncos will play this fall.
Besides the singles quarterfinal finish, Gu picked up two doubles wins while teamed up with junior Vasileios Iliopoulos to advance to the round of 16.
During the course of the tournament's main draw, the Broncos picked up 14 total wins including 11 in singles. Freshman Arthur Neuhaus accounted for three of the singles wins making it to the round of 16 while junior Jesus Tapiador Barajas picked up a pair of singles wins.
In the consolation bracket, Santa Clara notched another nine singles wins.
Santa Clara concludes its fall season at the Saint Mary's Invitational on Oct. 26-28.
