Men’s Tennis Advances Two to Semifinals at Saint Mary’s Fall Invitational
 
MORAGA, Calif.Vasileios Iliopoulos and Jesus Tapiador Barajas advanced to the semifinals of the singles A draw on Saturday as Santa Clara men's tennis continued its strong showing at the Saint Mary's Fall Invitational.  
 
The Broncos again picked up 10 wins in day two of the three-day tournament following a 10 win opening day on Friday.  Iliopoulos collected three of the wins to lead the team.
 
One of Iliopoulos' wins came at the expense of teammate Robert Seby in the quarterfinals of the singles A draw, beating the senior, 6-3, 6-3.  The Bronco junior will play Daniel Krutik of Saint Mary's in the semifinals at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.  
 
Tapiador Barajas also advanced to the semifinals of the singles A draw after wins over Fresno State's Jeremy Moser, 6-4, 6-3, and UC Davis' David Goulak, 6-7(5), 6-1, 2-0 (retire).  Tapiador Barajas faces Stanford's Jack Barber at 10:30 a.m. Sunday for a chance to advance to the finals.  
 
Before playing its singles match, Iliopoulos will be paired with Andrew Gu to play for the championship of the doubles consolation for the A draw against Cal's Jackson Suh and Can Kaya at 9 a.m.  The Bronco duo advanced to the championship beating San Francisco's Paul Giraud and Phuc Huynh, 8-4.  
 
Santa Clara suffered a loss in the semifinals on Saturday when Arthur Neuhaus and Tapiador Barajas fell to Mitchell Iwahiro and Alex Scemanenco, 8-5. 
 
Khan advanced to the quarterfinals of the singles B draw beating John Glesberts of Holy Names, 7-6 (5), 7-5, before losing to SMC's David Abfalter in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.  
 
In the extra match sessions,  Santa Clara got three wins including singles wins by Connor Garnett and Arthur Neuhaus and a doubles win by Khan and Santiago Hinojosa.  
 
The final day of the tournament resumes on Sunday at 9 a.m.
