SEATTLE – Santa Clara men's tennis beat Liberty, 6-1, in a neutral site match at the Nordstrom Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Washington on Saturday.
The Broncos (3-1) won the first six points with the match clincher coming on Robert Seby's, 6-2, 6-1, straight sets win over Steve Mundt on court six.
Santa Clara got on the scoring column when the Seby and Connor Garnett duo took down William Barker and Ian Sturgill, 6-4, to clinch the doubles point.
Arthur Neuhaus put the Broncos up 2-0 with a straight set win over Chase Burton, 6-0, 6-2, on court five to remain undefeated in singles play during the dual match season. The freshman has won his first three matches thus far.
Playing in his hometown, Garnett gave the Broncos a 3-0 advantage with a, 6-4, 6-2, win over Sturgill on court three before Seby's match clincher.
With the match already decided, the three remaining singles contests all went to three sets.
On court one, Jesus Tapiador Barajas beat Nicaise Muamba, 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6).
Andrew Gu eked out a, 6-7 (6-8), 6-1, 1-0 (14-12), win over Josh Wilson on court two.
Liberty (1-5) got its lone point of the match when Eddie Gutierrez beat Vasileios Iliopoulos, 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6).
The Broncos return to action on Sunday when it faces Washington at 1:30 p.m.
