Men’s Tennis Set to Host Two Conference Matches
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis will put a couple of win streaks on the line this weekend when it hosts Portland and Gonzaga in a pair of West Coast Conference matches.

The Broncos (10-3, 1-1 WCC) host the Pilots on Friday and the Bulldogs on Saturday at the Degheri Tennis Center where they are undefeated this season at 6-0 and are riding an overall six-match win streak.  First serve for both matches are scheduled for 11 a.m.

Last weekend, Santa Clara played one match after its match at Saint Mary's was postponed due to rain.  In the lone match, the Broncos beat Pacific on the road, 4-3 with Andrew Gu coming up with the match clincher at No. 1.

"It was a really, really good team win with some adversity that we had to face.  It showed the character that our players have.  Obviously, it was incredibly disappointing for Jesus to get injured but our team responded well and rallied around him," said Broncos head coach Niall Angus.

Portland (5-9, 0-2 WCC) enters the match having lost three in a row and are 0-3 on the road.  Despite its record, the Broncos are not taking anything for granted.

"Portland is a match that we have circled on our calendar.  It's the one team since I've been the coach here that we haven't beaten and having them at home is a good opportunity for us to try to fulfill our goal," said Angus who is in his third season as the head coach and fourth overall with the program.

Gonzaga (10-5, 1-1 WCC) won its last match against BYU at home and will play at San Francisco on Friday prior to the match with the Broncos.

"Gonzaga is a team that's been improving every year.  They have a new coach and just had a good win over BYU so it will be a tough challenge for us.  But we have been good on our home courts and are playing well so it'll be a great opportunity to continue to build on the momentum," Angus said.
