Three Men’s Tennis Players Advance to the Quarterfinals at the Aggie Invitational

DAVIS, Calif.Jesus Tapiador Barajas, Arthur Neuhaus and Ryan Ali advanced to the singles quarterfinal rounds in the opening day of the Aggie Invitational as part of eight wins picked up by Santa Clara men's tennis on Friday. 
 
Playing in the singles A draw, Tapiador Barajas and Neuhaus picked up two victories each.  
 
Tapiador Barajas beat Sacramento State's Joshua Snowdown-Poole, 6-1, 6-0 before taking care of Sonoma State's Santiago Sarudiansky, 6-2, 7-5.  The Bronco senior will next face David Goulak of UC Davis at 11 a.m. PT on Saturday.  
 
Neuhaus also won his two matches in straight sets, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 over Saint Mary's Abhishek Bastola and 6-4, 6-3 over Arjith Jayaraman of UC Davis.  He will also next play at 11 a.m. PT on Saturday against Portland's Semen Pankin.  
 
Ryan Ali had a solid start to his Bronco debut with a pair of wins in the singles B draw.  The freshman beat Philip Achenbach of Holy Names 6-3, 6-0 and Andrew Watterson of Saint Mary's 6-3, 6-4.  
 
Fellow freshman Nick Cmager also won his first match, needing three sets to depose Sonoma State's Max Nudell, 7-5, 1-6, 6-4, before falling to Ivan Thamma of UC Davis, 6-4, 6-2 in the A draw.  
 
In doubles action, Vasileios Iliopoulos and Neuhaus picked up the lone win for the Broncos with an 8-4 triumph over the Holy Names tandem of Jaiver Luque and Guillermo Romero.   Saint Mary's doubles team of Matis Bot and Karlo Divkovic awaits them for an 8:30 a.m. PT first serve on Saturday morning.
