Men’s Tennis Home Opener This Weekend
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – After seven matches stretched over four straight weekends on the road, Santa Clara men's tennis finally gets to play some home matches when they host Sacramento State and Holy Names this weekend.  First serve for Saturday's battle against Sacramento State is at 2 p.m. and Sunday's match against Holy Names is at 11 a.m. at the Degheri Tennis Center.

"It's going to be really good to be back home now in an environment where we've had a lot of success in the past and for a chance to get the ball rolling again," said Broncos head coach Niall Angus who has guided the Broncos to a sparkling 29-5 record at home in his three seasons at the helm.

"Sacramento State and Holy Names are two well coached teams," continued Angus.
"It's going to be a great opportunity for our players to get excited and just feel comfortable in our home environment on the courts we play everyday.  This week will also give us an opportunity to recover and recuperate, not having to travel so with a good week of practice I'm confident we'll play well and I'm looking to express ourselves in our home opener."

Saturday's contest is the third West Coast Conference school the Hornets (1-3) will face this spring, having lost at Pepperdine 7-0 and at Saint Mary's 6-1.

Holy Names (0-1) last played on Feb. 2 against Sonoma State in the spring opener, falling 6-1.

The Broncos went 2-5 in the seven road matches and are coming off a tight 5-2 loss at UNLV where the Broncos lost the final two matches in three sets.

"It was the first time this spring that our doubles play was something we could take away as a positive," said Angus.  "In singles, Arthur Neuhaus played a good match and Vas (Iliopoulos) continued his good form so that was a positive as well.  But it was obviously a disappointing loss.  After winning the doubles point, it would've been nice to carry the momentum into singles but we struggled early on and didn't have enough.   It'll be nice to be back at Degheri this weekend."
