Men's Tennis Falls 7-0 to No. 33 Cal

BERKELEY, Calif. - On Tuesday afternoon, the Santa Clara men's tennis team faced off against UC Berkeley. In a tough fight, but a disappointing follow up to their opening day double header sweep, the Broncos fell to the Golden Bears 7-0.

Santa Clara started off the match in a tight race for the doubles point, but was edged out of the point by Cal's Nick Andrews and Christoffer Konigsfeldt as they defeated Brian Brogan and Jay Wong in a tie breaker, 9-8 (2). Just coming up short on the doubles side of play set the tone for singles action. The Broncos did not go down with out a fight, but despite pushing each match to the limit, they could not find an edge to earn a point.

Kyle Dandan and Nicolas Vinel pushed their matches to three sets versus Pedro Zerbini and Nick Andrews, respectively. Dandan and Vinel ran out of ways to win in the end and fell 7-6(3), 4-6, 1-0(9) and 7-6(7), 2-6, 6-4.

"Cal played a great match. They earned a lot of big points and played tough. I give them a lot of credit," said Santa Clara head coach Derek Mills, "Now we need to get back to practice and work harder to get where we need to be so we can get better results down the road."

The Broncos take the court again on Sunday, Jan. 31 as they host Cal Poly. First serve is set for 1 p.m. at the Degheri Tennis Center.
