Santa Clara Dominated UC Davis 5-2

March 1, 2009

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - On Saturday afternoon, the Santa Clara men's tennis team dominated UC Davis with a decisive 5-2 victory. The Broncos started off strong, grabbing two of three doubles matches and four of six singles matches. Freshman Kyle Dandan and redshirt junior Tommy Hicks both had strong singles performances at the number two and three singles positions.

"I'm really happy with the energy our guys brought to doubles. We had two good wins to get the point and I think it really set the tone for the rest of the match," said Broncos head coach Derek Mills. "We went into singles with a lot of energy, winning at the one through four positions. Tommy Hicks had a dominating performance at the number three spot. To lose last year to these guys, 4-2, and to come back with a 5-2 win shows that we're taking a huge step in the right direction."

The Broncos dominated Davis from the start with two decisive doubles wins. Jay Wong, Kyle Dandan, Tommy Hicks, and Kenzo Hirakawa-Wong all grabbed singles victories for SCU to secure the win. Santa Clara's energy and strong play on the singles and doubles side of the match never gave the Aggies an opportunity to content for the win.
