April 11, 2010

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - This weekend the No. 65 Santa Clara men's tennis team hosted two tough teams in Pacific and Loyola Marymount and came out with two back-to-back wins. Assistant coach Jakub Cech was at the reins of both matches as head coach Derek Mills and his wife gave birth to a daughter on Thursday. The Broncos improve to 14-5 on the season with the wins, 2-1 in West Coast Conference play.

On Friday, SCU blew past Pacific with a final score of 6-1. The Broncos came back to win all singles match ups after narrowly losing the doubles point. On Saturday morning the Broncos were back in West Coast Conference action as they defeated Loyola Marymount 5-2. Brian Brogan and Eugene Muchynski were edged out of singles victories, but the rest of the SCU squad stepped up to secure the final win.

"I am really proud of our guys and really proud of Jakub as he led our team to two strong wins this weekend," said Mills. "This was a big weekend for us and I'm really proud of everyone on this team for stepping up and getting some big wins."

The Broncos are back in action three times this week, with their final home game and senior day on Saturday, April 17 versus Saint Mary's. On Tuesday and Thursday SCU will travel to Stanford and Sacramento State, respectively. Event details will follow this week.
