Broncos Defeat San Diego To Play For WCC Championship

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Yesterday afternoon the Bronco men's tennis team defeated San Diego in the second round of the West Coast Conference tournament. With the win Santa Clara improves to 18-6 on the season, 5-1 in WCC play.

"Our guys came out really strong and played the best doubles matches we have played all year," said head coach Derek Mills. "USD gave us a hard time in singles and we definitely had to battle through to get the win."

In doubles, Brian Brogan and Jay Wong at the No. 1 spot along with Kyle Dandan and Grant Flemming at No. 3 put the Broncos ahead before battling through singles play. Sophomore Nicolas Vinel clinched the match for SCU with a come from behind victory at No. 5 singles over Nils Schive.

The Broncos are back in action Sunday, April 25, in the championship match versus the Pepperdine Waves.
