Shields and Hirakawa-Wong To Play in Third Round at Bulldog Classic

FRESNO, Calif. - Santa Clara men's tennis players Blane Shields, Kenzo Hirakawa-Wong and Jay Wong participated in day one of Fresno State Bulldog Classic.

Shields will play in the third round, after defeating UC Davis' Justin Garcia in a two set victory, 6-1, 6-3, in the first round. Followed by, a second round two set win, 6-3, 6-0, over University of Washington's Martin Kildahl.

Hirakawa-Wong reached the second round after defeating Ronan Conlon of Sacramento State in a two set victory, 6-2, 6-2, and a first round bye. Hirakawa-Wong will play in the third round, along with Shields.

Wong reached the second round before being eliminated by Andy Kuharszky of the University of Washington in a three set match, 6-3, 6-7 (8), 6-1. In the first round, Wong defeated Fresno Pacific's Fabio Silva in a two set win, 7-5, 6-0.

In doubles Shields and Wong were eliminated in round one by University of Washington's Martin Kildahl and Andy Kuharszky, 8-4.

Shields and Hirakawa-Wong will see action in the third round on day two of the tournament, Oct. 6.
