Men's Tennis Finishes Regular Season on the Road

April 8, 2009

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara men's tennis team will finish out the 2009 dual season in two road matches. This afternoon, the Broncos travel to take on West Coast Conference and Bay Area rival San Francisco at 2 p.m. On Apr. 13, the team will close out the season at No. 54 Pacific.

Today's match versus USF was originally scheduled for the first half of the dual season on Feb. 11, but was rescheduled due to inclement weather. Since then, the Dons have worked to earn a 5-10 record heading into today's match. In their last match versus WCC opponent LMU, San Francisco prevailed 4-3 thanks to junior Rainer Nachbauer's game clinching singles performance at the number three singles position.

Next Monday, SCU travels to Stockton, Calif. to face No. 54 Pacific. The last time Santa Clara faced Pacific was Apr. 6, 2005 when SCU overcame the Tigers in a thrilling 4-3 victory. A game clinching singles performance from then senior Eric Kochanski sealed the win for the Broncos. This season, Pacific has compiled an 11-5 record. In its last match, Pacific grabbed the Big West Conference title with a 7-0 win over UC Riverside. The Tigers will travel to San Francisco on Apr. 11 to take on the Dons before hosting the Broncos.

Next Monday's match marks the end of the regular season for Santa Clara. The post season begins on Apr. 17 with the first round of the West Coast Conference tournament in San Diego.
