May 26, 2009

SANTA CLARA, Calif.- The Santa Clara men's tennis team has signed the No. 15 class nationally as ranked by tennisrecruiting.net. It's the team's highest nationally-ranked recruiting class ever.

Thomas Pham of San Diego, Calif., and Eugene Muchynski of San Jose, Calif., who are both top 100 prep players, headline the 2009 Bronco men's tennis class. Pham is ranked No. 61 nationally this week with his highest ranked in 2009 at No. 52 in January. He attends Rancho Bernardo High School. Muchynski is currently ranked No. 85 nationally with his highest ranking this year at No. 74 on Feb. 17, 2009. He plays out of Silicon Valley Tennis Academy and was the 2006, 2007 and 2008 MVP of his high school team.

"This recruiting class is great for the program on a national scale. We have brought in players from all over the country that want to play tennis at Santa Clara," said Santa Clara men's head tennis coach Derek Mills. "This is the highest recruiting class ranking we have ever had for men's tennis. We finally will have a roster that can compete with anyone on our schedule and give us a chance to win.

"In addition, this lays the ground work for our next class that we are currently recruiting," continued Mills. "The junior class can now see that you can come to Santa Clara, get a great education in the most beautiful part of the country and can compete at the highest levels of college tennis. Things are going to start to get very exciting around the Degehri Tennis Center next year."
