SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara men's tennis head coach Derek Mills announced today the hiring of Jakub Cech as an assistant coach. Cech comes to the Mission Campus after a standout collegiate career at Fresno State where he was ranked in the top-30 nationally in his senior year.

"I'm really excited to have Jakub join our coaching staff," said Mills. "We are in a rebuilding phase right now and Jakub is an important piece of that. His experience and expertise will be instrumental in our program moving forward in recruiting top players, and competing for a West Coast Conference championship and the NCAAs every year."

Cech, a native of Prague, was a four-year letterwinner at Fresno State competing at the No. 1 singles spot and was ranked as high at No. 26 in the nation. He helped the Bulldogs to back-to-back runner-up finishes at the WAC Tournament in 2006 and 2007, and participated as a team in the 2004 NCAA Tournament. Individually, he advanced to the second round of the NCAA Singles tournament in 2006 and participated in the Indoors National Championship. Cech earned the team's MVP award in 2006 while also being named WAC Player of the Year and Northwest Region Singles Champion. From 2005-07, he earned All-WAC First team singles honors.

Cech is currently working towards his masters of business administration at Santa Clara.
