SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara men's tennis team announced today the signing of Eugene Muchynski and Tom Pham to National Letters of Intent. The pair will join the Broncos for their freshmen season in the fall of 2009.

"I am excited to welcome Eugene and Tom to the Santa Clara men's tennis team," said head coach Derek Mills of his first recruiting class. "They are both proven players and will add depth to our lineup."

Muchynski hails from San Jose, Calif. and is the 72nd ranked recruit by TennisRecruiting.net. A talented player, the Lynbrook High School senior is ranked No. 2 in NorCal USTA for boys. He is a consistent and tough player, and has captured titles in his last two tournaments.

"Eugene is strong local player," explained Mills. "He is one of the top players in Northern California and is an all around asset to our program."

Pham, a San Diego, Calif. native is a coveted 5-star recruit. The Rancho Bernardo High School senior is ranked No. 51 by TennisRecruiting.net.

"Tom is a tough player who always stays in a match," Mills said. "He is an important recruit for our program, as we traditionally have a hard time getting players from Southern California to come play at SCU."

The men's tennis team will kick off the 2009 dual season on Saturday, Jan. 24 versus UC Santa Cruz at 9:30 a.m., followed by UC Davis at 12:30 p.m.
