Water Polo Defeats Pomona at Slugfest Tournament

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's water polo team defeated Pomona-Pitzer 16-5 tonight to open play at the Slugfest Tournament, hosted by UC Santa Cruz. With the victory, the Broncos improve to 5-2 on the season.

Complete results were not available, but 14 of the Broncos' goals were scored by: senior Jay Moorhead with four, senior Dan O'Connell added three, sophomore Logan Gee and freshman Grant Allison had two apiece and one each from sophomore J.P Doucette, freshman Nick Takahashi and senior Bryan Failing contributed to the Broncos' domination.

Sophomore Gareth Owens played the whole match in goal for SCU and posted three saves.

The Broncos continue play at the Slugfest Tournament, taking on Cal Baptist tomorrow at 5:15 p.m. and will conclude weekend action on Sunday against UC San Diego at 11:50 and Air Force at 5:15 p.m.
