Men's Water Polo Bested in Overtime

Sept. 14, 2003

REDLANDS, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's water polo team absorbed its first loss of the season, falling in overtime to host-and 20th-ranked-Redlands by a 6-5 score, to close out play at the Inland Empire Classic.

The Broncos are now 3-1 on the season after a 7-4 victory over Division III sixth-ranked Pomona-Pitzer earlier today.

"Last year when we played them, we were out of the game by the first quarter," head coach Keith Wilbur said. "To play them well at the beginning of this season is a good measure of where we're at. It was a good effort from our team, and we'll see Redlands again in two weeks at the Slugfest Invitational."

Dan Figoni and Kenny Flanagan-De La Hoz scored two goals each, while Logan Gee added the final tally. Peter Moore recorded seven blocks while guarding the cage, in addition to one steal.

The Broncos return to the pool Wednesday, visiting Pacific in Stockton for a 6 p.m. match.
