SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Sophomore water polo player Jack Wall has been named and All-American following his outstanding 2006 season in the pool. He earned honorable-mention All-America honors from the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) after leading the Broncos to their best finish ever in the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA).
"I am very happy that Jack Wall received All-American recognition this year," said head coach Keith Wilbur. "Jack had another great year in the water, and our team finished higher in our conference and in the national rankings than we have in a long time. The coaches in our conference are well aware of what Jack can do, but it is nice to see that he is now being recognized by coaches throughout the country. Jack's level of play as well as our team's performance this year has something to do with that."
The Los Gatos native had a spectacular season for the Broncos in 2006, leading them to a 12-5 record in the Western Water Polo Association, a No. 4 seed at the WWPA Championships and a fourth place finish. Overall, the Broncos finished 14-16 with a final ranking of No. 16 nationally. On the season, Wall scored a team-leading 70 goals and had 21 assists. He was in the Top-5 in scoring in the WWPA and in the Top-10 nationally. His efforts made him one of only eight WWPA athletes to be recognized with All-America honors.
Earlier this year, he earned All-WWPA honors for the second straight year. In 2005, he was an All-WWPA second team selection, while this year he was named to the first team. He was also the WWPA Newcomer of the Year in 2005. He has now scored 121 goals in his career.
