SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara men's water polo team announced today that four players have received academic All-American honors from the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches. 2006 WWPA Newcomer of the Year Liam Farrell (3.47) was joined by Andrew Fitch (3.79), Tommy Kelly (3.26) and Daniel Soares (3.23) as ACWPC academic All-Americans.

"I am very happy with how our team did in the classroom this past quarter," said head coach Keith Wilbur. "I am proud of what these four guys have accomplished and I think it sets a good example for all the players on our team."

Over the past few years, the men's water polo team GPA has hovered around 2.9, and this fall was the first time that they reached the 3.0 milestone.

"This past quarter our team GPA was 3.06," Wilbur began. "One of our team goals this year was to have our team GPA be over 3.0."

Fitch, Kelly and Soares are also nominees for the WWPA All-Academic Team, whose honorees have yet to be announced.
