Santa Clara vs. UC Santa Cruz Quote Sheet - 10/14/2006

Oct. 14, 2006

Recap

Head coach Keith Wilbur, on game: "We only get to play two home games a year, and we had a bunch of fans out here supporting us, so we wanted to play well for them. It was a really physical game, and Santa Cruz came to play. They are one of our rivals, and I'm not at all surprised that it ended up going to overtime."

Wilbur, on Santa Cruz's comeback effort: "There was a stretch where our offense wasn't clicking. We were forced to adjust our offense and make smarter passes."

Wilbur, on play of defense: "We played very well today. The guys were playing physical, playing smart, helping each other and playing good team defense."

Wilbur, on overtime victory: "I was really happy. After Liam [Farrell] scored to put us up I was looking for us to play good defense to hang on for the win. But then when Jack got that second one it was just a sigh of relief."

Jack Wall, on result: "It was a great game. We were honoring all our seniors who have been here for the last four years, so to pull off a victory for them was great. It puts over the .500 mark for the first time since going 0-8 to start the season."

Wall, on overtime: "This was where we had to step up the most. Mike Detoy came off the bench and helped us create a lot of opportunities to get those late goals."

Wall, on team's recent success: "We're really clicking right now. Last weekend a lot of guys got to do a lot of new things that they hadn't necessarily done before, and our confidence is really building."

Wall, on final goal: "I'm thinking, `Thats it. we got the win!'. The crowd was unbelievable, I love them. They were with us the whole game. After I scored that goal, to see them going crazy was just the greatest thing ever."
