No. 16 Men's Water Polo Opens Season at the Bruno Fall Classic

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The No. 16 Broncos will open up their season this weekend at the Bruno Fall Classic in Providence, R.I. This is the first time in program history that the Broncos will travel to Brown University. The Broncos will compete in five games in a three-day period against No. 14 Brown, No. 18 Harvard, St. Francis, No. 14 Navy and MIT.

The Brown Bears are led by senior Henry Fox and junior Will Klein. Last season for the Bears Fox lead the team with 85 goals. Klein has been named CWPA Northern Division Player of the Week (Sept. 10) after tallying 11 goals in three games at the Princeton Invitational this past weekend.

In their match-up last season at The Rodeo Tournament, the Broncos came out with a hard fought 10-9 win over the Bears in the final minute of regulation play with a goal by Matt Godar.

On Sept. 13 the Broncos will face Harvard and St. Francis. The Crimson are currently on a three game winning streak after opening up their season at the Princeton Invitational. The Crimson scored 36 goals in three games and were lead by junior two-meter Ben Zepfel who scored nine goals.

St. Francis is on the opposite end, dropping all three of their games at the Princeton Invitational to start their season. The Terriers have six veteran seniors returning for them, including Vuk Vujosevic of Belgrade, Serbia who netted 51 goals last season.

On Sunday, the Broncos will face the Navy Midshipmen. Last season, the Broncos defeated the Midshipmen handily 16-12 at the Princeton Invitaional.

The Midshipmen are currently on a five game winning streaking after rolling over their competition to start the season. The Midshipmen are returning two of their leaders last season, juniors Garrett Sabesky and Carl Dowzicky. Sabesky tallied 272 saves with a .527 save percentage in 28 games. Dowzicky lead the team with 69 goals in his breakout sophomore campaign.

The Broncos will wrap up the weekend in a final game against MIT. The Engineers boast a young roster with only two seniors this season, Dylan Hallman and Jack Clark. The Enigneers are currently 2-1 this season, dropping a close game to George Washington at the Princeton Invitational.
