Men's Water Polo Picks Up Conference Win

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The No. 18 Bronco men's water polo team picked up a conference win this past weekend over Fresno Pacific. Heading into their final three games of the season, the Broncos are 12-12 for the season.

The Sunbirds jumped out to an early one goal lead, but Mark Davis rallied for the Broncos, scoring two goals to give the Broncos the 2-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Off of an earned ejection, the Sunbirds put in a goal to tie the game two all. The Sunbird quickly followed up with the go-ahead goal to take the 3-2 lead. David Guibord found the back of the net for the Broncos to retie the game ate 3-3. Off of an earned ejection, Guibord scored his second of the quarter to regain the lead, 4-3. Matt Kochalko put in a goal, giving the Broncos a two-goal lead going into half, 5-3.

Both the Broncos and the Sunbirds put up tough defensive efforts in the third period, keeping each other scoreless for much of the quarter. Richard Daly broke the silence with a little over one minute left to play in the quarter. The Sunbirds put in one of their own, but the Broncos maintained a two-goal lead, 6-4.

The Sunbirds opened up the fourth quarter with a two-goal run to tie the game 6-6. Graham McClone put in his first goal of the game to regain the lead for the Broncos, but the Sunbirds quickly tied the game for the fifth time 7-7. Chase Shaaf sealed the deal for the Broncos with the tiebreaking goal, giving the Broncos the 8-7 conference win over the Sunbirds.

The Broncos will now close out their season with a three home game stretch before heading to Los Angeles for the WWPA Championship hosted by Loyola Marymount.
