Record-Setting Two-Meter Player Evan Chang, Joe Maestri to be Honored Saturday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara men's water polo team will honor Evan Chang and Joe Maestri as part of 'Senior Day' at the Sullivan Aquatic Center on Saturday afternoon. SCU is closing out the regular season against cross-town rival San Jose State. Game time is set for 12 noon.

The 17th-ranked Broncos (10-19; 2-4 WWPA) broke into the NCAA Top 20 rankings after back-to-back wins over SJSU during the Aggie Shootout in late September. The Broncos have been ranked nationally ever since. SCU has seven wins over top-20 teams this season.

Chang has secured his place in Santa Clara water polo history. The two-meter player is the program's all-time leader in earned ejections (184). The two-year starter had 41 as a freshman in 2012 and went on to a stellar career that included accolades as a Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) All-Conference honoree. Not only has Chang excelled athletically, he has been named to the WWPA All-Academic Team in each of his three collegiate seasons to-date.

Maestri earned prep All-America honors starring at nearby Bellarmine College Prep. Maestri is a fifth-year senior who has assumed the starting goalkeeping duties, saving 199 shots this season, during what has been arguably the most challenging schedule in program history.

San Jose State (3-22; 0-8 MPSF) resurrected its men's water polo program this fall after a 34-year hiatus. Relying heavily on younger players, the Spartans have struggled through their conference campaign in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) against the likes of perennial NCAA powers Stanford, UCLA, Cal and USC.

After wrapping the regular season Saturday, the Broncos will turn their focus to the WWPA Championships held at the Air Force Academy in Colorado the weekend of Nov. 20-22.

Due to a number of on-campus athletic events Saturday, fans are encouraged to utilize the free parking in the University's main parking structure adjacent to the pool.
