Men’s Water Polo Loses to No. 5 Stanford

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Blake Parrish scored a game-high seven goals to lead No. 5 Stanford past Santa Clara men's water polo by a score of 21-7 Wednesday evening in nonconference action.

Parrish scored three times in the third quarter when the Cardinal (9-2) tallied four in a two-minute span to increase the lead to 14-2.  

Graham McClone and Shane Hughes each scored twice for the Broncos (5-9) who are holding their annual Alumni game at 1 p.m. Saturday as part of the school's Grand Reunion weekend.

The Cardinal scored on all three of their man advantage opportunities and lone 5-meter attempt.

Santa Clara was 2-for-8 with the extra attacker and Reilley May scored on a 5-meter penalty shot.

The Broncos found an offensive rhythm in the fourth quarter, though the game was well in hand.

Will Grant scored early in the period before McClone hit the back of the net on the man advantage with 2:46 left. Hughes' final goal occurred with the extra attacker.

Vinny Sicat had a goal and two assists for the Broncos.

Santa Clara is in the midst of eight of nine games at Sullivan Aquatic Center after playing 11 in a row away from home.

The lone road game in the current stretch occurs on Saturday, Oct. 15, when the Broncos play at Air Force in a Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) contest.
