SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara men's water polo team is set to play host to the inaugural Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament, which begins Friday.

The three-day tournament features 12 teams from both sides of the country playing 22 games at Santa Clara and San Jose State.

There will be 13 contests at Santa Clara and nine at San Jose State Saturday and Sunday.

Action starts at 2:20 p.m. Friday when Cal Baptist faces Brown in Sullivan Aquatic Center.

The Broncos (5-8, 1-2) defeated Cal Baptist, 14-12, on Thursday in a Western Water Polo Association matchup and then play four games in the tournament, which has been renamed to honor a former Santa Clara player (formerly the Rodeo Tournament). A two-year member of the program, Fraser passed away in the spring.

Santa Clara's first game in the tournament is set for 5 p.m. Friday vs. Harvard.

The Spartans will hold games at West Valley College in nearby Saratoga, California. The first game at that site is set for 9 a.m. Saturday when San Jose State meets Cal Baptist. Visit the San Jose State men's water polo webpage for details on games at West Valley College.

Five schools will make the trip from the East Coast and four WWPA teams are in the field.

Santa Clara games will be streamed and live stats will be provided. Results and box scores for all remaining games will be posted on the tournament page.

About the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament: The Santa Clara water polo community lost one its own in the spring of 2017 with the passing of men's player Julian Fraser. The two-year member of the program touched many around him in his short life. In recognition, the water polo program has renamed the annual Rodeo Tournament as the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament, a three-day event which features teams from both sides of the country. Fraser was beloved by coaches, teammates and the Santa Clara University community. He had a true joy for the sport, he was a fierce competitor and enjoyed the camaraderie with his teammates. This annual tournament is a fitting way to honor and remember him.

Tickets: There are both single-game and all-day options for the tournament. Entry will require the purchase of a $10 all-day pass (exit and entry for the day) with the exception of Santa Clara contests. Patrons may purchase a single-game ticket priced at $6 for each of the four Broncos games. All-day passes purchased at Santa Clara do not include entry to the games at West Valley College.
