Men’s Water Polo Back on The Road for Two WWPA Games

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara Men's Water Polo team is back on the road this week to compete in two Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) games after hosting the three-day Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament.

The Broncos (6-11), who just completed a five-game homestand, will face UC San Diego at 6 p.m. Thursday and Loyola Marymount at noon on Saturday.

Santa Clara fell to Harvard, 11-10, on Friday, split a pair on Saturday, defeating Wagner, 15-9, and falling to Brown, 11-10. On Sunday, the Broncos had a tough 10-9 overtime loss against Bucknell.

Patrick Kirk led the team in scoring during the four games of the tournament with 10 goals, and Mac Carey was second with seven.

Reilley May had a career-high tying five kickouts drawn against Bucknell and drew a total of 15 throughout the tournament.

Santa Clara hopes to build off some strong play during the tournament that featured matchups with three top 20 teams.

"We've worked on a lot of different aspects of the game up to this point in the season, and I think we played at a higher level this past weekend than we have all year, so that's a positive," said head coach Keith Wilbur. "The biggest thing we need to work on is execution down the stretch. We played hard throughout every game, but we also need to make good decisions, overcome bad breaks, focus on what we can control, and have confidence in ourselves and each other."

Last year, Santa Clara dropped a pair of one-goal home games against UC San Diego (11-10) and LMU (14-13). The Broncos hope to elevate their game on the road.

"Going on the road can be a great way for a team to come together, get focused, eliminate distractions, and play well, so that's what we're going to be looking to do going into these next two games," said Wilbur./p>
