Men’s Water Polo Closes Out Princeton Invitational With Come-Back Win Over Fordham

PRINCETON, N.J.Mac Carey scored a career-high six goals, including the late game-winner, to lift Santa Clara men's water polo to a come-from-behind 14-13 win over Fordham during Sunday's action in the season-opening Princeton Invitational.

The Broncos (3-1) won their final three games in the three-day, 15-team tournament.

Jake Miller-Tolt also had six goals, including the game-tying strike with 21 seconds left, for Fordham (2-4), which led by three late in the third quarter.

Ryan Werner scored three times and had three assists, and Reilley May drew three kickouts and a pair of penalty shots for the Broncos who were 7-for-8 with the man advantage and connected on all three 5-meter attempts.

Santa Clara scored four straight times, including the final two by Werner, to take a 12-11 lead with just more than 2 minutes left in the game, but Miller-Tolt answered with the equalizer on a penalty shot.

Dane Estella's goal pushed the Broncos back ahead to set up the dramatic final seconds as Carey scored the game-winner with one second remaining.

Keaton Fox went the distance in net for the Broncos, registering nine blocks.

The Broncos play at Stanford on Saturday before facing Cal on Wednesday, Sept. 29 in the home opener, whcih is set for 3 p.m. at Sullivan Aquatic Center.
