Men’s Water Polo Continues WWPA Play on Saturday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's water polo will hit the road this weekend to face Air Force in its second Western Water Polo Association game of the season.

The Broncos (3-5, 0-1) will face off against the Falcons (3-9, 1-2) at 10 am PDT.

Santa Clara is coming off a 19-12 loss to No. 8 UC Davis. Sam Toriggino led the offense by scoring a career-high tying three times, but the Aggies matched their season-high in goals.

"The biggest take away from this past weekend with Davis is that we have to play much better defense," head coach Keith Wilbur said. "We need to understand the importance of positioning, showing hands, awareness, and every single guy hustling on every play. Good teams take advantage of a single defensive breakdown, and Davis repeatedly did that to us on Saturday. Our offense was pretty good, but we gave up way too many goals."

The Falcons fell at home on Saturday to conference foe UC San Diego, 20-12.

"Saturday's game is our only one this week, so we're totally focused in on them," Wilbur said. "Air Force can be a tough place to play because of the travel, their home crowd, and the high altitude. However, we go there every other year, so it is something we are used to. We just need to focus on the game, what we can control, and play good water polo."

The Falcons have won the last three meetings, but the Broncos were victorious on their last trip to the Air Force Academy, a 14-12 win on Oct. 15, 2016.
