Men's Water Polo Returns to Conference Play on the Road

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - After a successful home tournament, Santa Clara men's water polo hits the road this week for a pair of Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) games.

The Broncos (9-9, 1-2), who have won five of their last six outings, face Concordia (5-14, 1-3) on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. and No. 12 California Baptist (17-9, 2-1) on Saturday at noon.

Santa Clara, which entered this week's CWPA ranking at No. 15, won all four games at last weekend's Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament.

Reilley May, who earned WWPA Player of the Week, helped lead the way by recording 10 goals, drawing 16 ejections and five penalty shots, and posting four steals.

Shane Hughes also had a solid tournament, totaling 16 goals, nine assists and six steals. The junior posted a career-high five goals, including the game-winner, in Saturday's 13-10 win over Wagner. He went on to match that output in Sunday's 15-13 overtime win against Bucknell, as well as posting a career-best five assists in that contest.

Junior Mac Carey, the team's leading scorer (39), tallied 11 goals and 10 assists, and Sean Tehaney was the winning goalie in each outing, posting a career-best 14 blocks against both Saint Francis Brooklyn and Wagner.
