Men's Water Polo Players, Team Earn ACWPC All-Academic Honors

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. – The Santa Clara men's water polo team and 11 of its players were honored by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC).

Arvin Bahia, Reilley May, Matthew Churchman, Adam Low, Judge Washer, Mac Carey, Sam Toriggino, Camden Benson, Jack Larkin, Shane Hughes and Scott Zurnacian earned spots on the 2018 ACWPC All-Academic Team.

Divided into three teams based on cumulative grade-point average, athletes receive Outstanding (3.71-4.00), Superior (3.41-3.70) or Excellent (3.20-3.40) distinction.

A total of 388 athletes from 45 teams were named to the team with the ACWPC awarding 111 Outstanding, 162 Superior and 115 Excellent accolades.

Bahia and May were named Outstanding; Churchman, Low, Washer and Carey were Superior; Toriggino, Benson, Larkin, Hughes and Zurnacian were Excellent.

The team was recognized, along with 24 other schools, for achieving a GPA of at least 3.00. The Broncos had a 3.04 GPA for the term.

"I am impressed that 11 of our players earned recognition," head coach Keith Wilbur said. "These players have done a great job of balancing their studies with very demanding practice and game schedules. Also, I am very happy to see our entire roster earn an average team GPA over a 3.0 which is one of the goals that we set for ourselves."

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete's head coach must be a member of the ACWPC.
