SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara women's basketball head coach Chris Denker announced the addition of junior guard Whitney Sutak to the 2001-02 roster. Sutak, who grew up in Mill Valley, will redshirt the upcoming season as a transfer from Utah and will have two years of eligibility remaining.
A 6-0 guard, Sutak will bring added size and athleticism to the Bronco backcourt. She averaged 4.0 points per game and 1.2 rebounds per game in limited action off the Utah bench over two seasons. Last year, the Utes went 28-4 en route to a Sweet 16 berth in the NCAA Tournament.
"We're very excited about adding Whitney to the roster," Denker said. "She's very tall for a guard, so we're looking forward to utilizing her height at the wing position. She's also very good with the ball in the open court and is a solid three-point shooter. Whitney's seen a lot of top competition while at Utah and understands the college game. Although she'll spend this season learning our system and keeping in shape in our weight room, we're looking forward to her addition on the court."
While at Branson High School, Sutak was a three-time All-Bay County League honoree and was named the League MVP in 1998.
