Butler Named WCC Women's Basketball Player of the Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Santa Clara University junior forward Julie Butler was named the West Coast Conference's Women's Basketball Player of the Week for her play at the Golden Gopher Classic in Minneapolis, Minn., over the weekend.

Butler scored a game-high 21 points against then-No. 24 Utah as the Broncos won their season opener. She added nine rebounds and four steals in the victory, going 8-of-14 from the floor and 5-of-9 from the free-throw line. Against host Minnesota, Butler went 4-of-7 and posted nine points, seven rebounds, two assists, three steals and one block in the losing efforts. She was named to the All-Tournament team for her performance.

Santa Clara will return to action this weekend at the Seattle Times Husky Classic, hosted by the University of Washington on November 23 and 24 in Seattle. The Broncos will take on Princeton at 6 p.m. Friday and will face the winner of the No. 24 Washington/Northeastern contest on Saturday.
