This Week
Most of the Broncos will be returning home this weekend when Santa Clara visits Seattle, Wash., for the Seattle Times Husky Classic, hosted by the University of Washington. With eight players on the roster from the state of Washington, and one each from Oregon and Alaska, SCU will have a home crowd of sorts on hand as the Broncos open against Princeton on Nov. 23 and face the winner of the No. 25 Washington/Northeastern contest the following night.
Welcome to "Washington South"
With eight players on this year's roster from the state of Washington, the mission campus is becoming known as "Washington South." The Broncos returned five of the six Washington natives from last season in senior Becki Ashbaugh of Bellevue, junior Tammy Annas of Enumclaw, sophomore Jennie Rondel of Kirkland, junior Julie Butler of Tacoma and junior Courtney Cushing of Brush Prairie. The addition of an entire recruiting class, in three incoming freshman, complete this season's contingent from the Evergreen State: Kim Butler of Tacoma, Quinn Thomas of Kent and Kayla Huss of Everett.
Live on the Internet
Santa Clara's games this weekend can be heard on a live Internet audio broadcast on www.SantaClaraBroncos.com. Additionally, next Tuesday's home opener can be followed online with a live statistical tracker, also located on Santa Clara's official athletic website. By logging on, fans can receive real-time updated statistics direct from the official scoring computer allowing users to listen to the audio broadcast and keep up with the statistics simultaneously. The features were introduced midway through last season and have been enjoyed for the team's entire regular season schedule. Anthony Passarelli begins his first season as the voice of the Broncos.
Butler Named WCC Player of the Week
Julie Butler was named the West Coast Conference's Player of the Week for her play at the Golden Gopher Classic in Minneapolis, Minn., over the weekend. Butler scored a game-high 21 points against then-No. 24 Utah as the Broncos won their season opener. She added nine rebounds and four steals in the victory, going 8-of-14 from the floor and 5-of-9 from the free-throw line. Against host Minnesota, Butler went 4-of-7 and posted nine points, seven rebounds, two assists, three steals and one block in the losing efforts. She was named to the All-Tournament team for her performance.
In the Rankings
Although the Broncos are not ranked in the top 25 polls yet, the team did receive votes this week after opening the season by topping 24th-ranked Utah at the Golden Gopher Basketball Classic. Santa Clara received five votes in the AP poll and two in the USA Today/ESPN listing while ranking 29th nationally by CollegeRPI.com.
Season Openers
With its upset victory over 24th-ranked Utah last weekend, Santa Clara has now won its last three season-openers. The game also marked the fourth season opener on the road for the Broncos in the last five seasons. Additionally, the win marked the ninth season-opening victory for the Broncos in the last 11 years and 23rd overall in 39 seasons.

Notable: Princeton won its season-opener for the first time since the 1995-96 season with a 15-point victory over Lehigh last weekend... freshman Karen Bolster scored 24 points, the most ever by a Tiger in her first game and the second-most ever by any Princeton player, behind only the 27 scored by Bill Bradley in his first game in 1962... the squad is led by Richard Barron, in his first game as Princeton head coach... he inherited a program that went 2-25 a year ago.

Notable: The Huskies are currently ranked 25th nationally with a 1-1 mark, having defeated Montana State but falling to Wisconsin during opening weekend... Washington is the defending Pac-10 Champions and advanced to the Elite 8 in last season's NCAA Tournament.

Series Record: First Meeting
Notable: The Huskies are 0-1 on the season after falling to Canisius 78-64 during opening weekend. Northeastern was led by Joi Jefferson and her 22 points.
Up Next: Home Opener
The home opener will take place Tuesday, Nov. 27, a 6 p.m. start against San Jose State. The game is the first in a doubleheader with the men's team, who will also take on the Spartans.

Season and individual game tickets for Santa Clara are on sale through the school's official website www.SantaClaraBroncos.com and the athletic ticket office at 408-554-4660. In conjunction with Student Advantage's FANSonly Network, the athletic department has developed an online ticket application that provides fans with the ability to purchase season tickets, family plans, individual games or an all-sports pass via the official athletic website. Season and individual match ticket packages are also available through the athletic ticket office, open between the hours of 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
