SEATTLE (AP) - Santa Clara's Kayla Huss scored 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds in leading the Broncos to an 80-52 victory over the Princeton Tigers in the opening game of The Seattle Times Husky Classic on Friday night.
Huss was among four Santa Clara players to post double-digit scoring. Their shooting helped the Broncos advance to the tournament championship game on Saturday night against the winner of Friday night's game between Northeastern and tournament host Washington.
Santa Clara (2-1) used a balanced scoring attack that moved it out to an early lead that was never threatened. In the second half, Princeton never got closer than 13 points.
Princeton (2-1) suffered its first loss of the season. The Tigers had won their first two games of the campaign to match their win total from the 2000-01 season when they finished 2-25.
Huss, Kendra Rhea, Kim Butler and Jennie Rondel each scored 10 for the Broncos.
Princeton's Lauren Rigney led all scorers with 20 and was its only player to reach double figures.
Eight minutes into the game, the Broncos led 17-5 after Huss made consecutive 3-pointers to cap a 10-0 run. Santa Clara continued to roll for the remainder of the half.
Princeton dug itself an early hole with poor shooting. The Tigers failed to make a field goal on consecutive possessions in the first half in which they shot only 7 of 29 from the floor. Santa Clara led 45-25 at halftime.
