Cozad Named WCC Co-Player of the Week

Nov. 21, 2005

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Despite the end result, a 92-91 loss to No. 8 Georgia last Friday night, there were some silver linings in the experience for the Santa Clara women's hoops team. One of those was the career night turned in by senior guard Michelle Cozad, for which she was named WCC Co-Player of the Week along with Gonzaga's Ashley Anderson.

The Broncos' leading returning scorer after averaging 13.1 points a game and just over four rebounds, Cozad wasted no little time in getting back into a groove for the 2005-06 season.

She tied a career-high as she poured in 34 points in 36 minutes of action against the Lady Bulldogs. Cozad set new career marks as well in shots made (13), attempted (23) and in three-pointers made (5) and attempted (10). The Stockton, Calif. native was a force defensively, as well, pulling down seven rebounds (six of them defensive) and posting four steals on the night.

Cozad and the Broncos return home this week from a two-game swing through the South to host Kansas State Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. and Central Florida Monday night at 7 p.m. Tickets are available by calling (408) 554-4660.
