2006-07 Women's Basketball Schedule
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The 2006-07 schedule for the defending WCC regular-season champion Santa Clara University women's basketball team was announced today and will feature games against NCAA Tournament teams as well as schools form the Pac-10, Atlantic Coast Conference and Big 12 conferences.
After finishing the 2005-06 season with a 19-12 overall record (11-3 WCC) and reaching the postseason for the eighth time in the last nine years, the Broncos will undertake another challenging schedule seeking to reach their third consecutive postseason.
Among the 16 home dates at the Leavey Center in 2006-07, Santa Clara will host two exhibitions at 7 p.m. on November 1 and 6, against Sonoma State and San Francisco State, respectively. The non-conference home schedule includes the ACC's Miami Hurricanes at 7 p.m. on November 15, as well as a Saturday afternoon contest November 25 against the Pac-10's Washington State, and a Saturday night game December 9 against Fresno State of the Western Athletic Conference.
The Broncos will also take to the road for a mid-November trip to Boise State followed by a short hop south to Provo, Utah to battle 2006 NCAA Tournament participants the BYU Cougars. In mid-December, SCU will swing through America's heartland for a pair of contests against Big 12 schools Kansas State (Dec. 15) and Kansas (Dec. 17).
Santa Clara will also make a pair of local non-conference stops in the winter, taking on the Stanford Cardinal November 29 at Maples Pavilion, and heading to the Event Center in San Jose for a Rivalry Series contest against San Jose State on December 30.
"I am very pleased with the non-conference schedule that we have been able to put together for the 2006-2007 season," said head coach Michelle Bento-Jackson. "This schedule allows us to play against competition that will help us improve as a basketball team. I believe that you learn more about a basketball team when playing against programs that challenge it, and this schedule will definitely do that for us."
