Jan. 24, 2008

Recap |  Final Stats

Head Coach Michelle Bento-Jackson
On the first half:
"We didn't start off well defensively and because of that San Diego had too many easy looks. But we were able to create the momentum we wanted going into halftime."

On the tough second half:
"We weren't in sync offensively and that affected us defensively. We always want to bring energy to our defense."

On the last nine seconds of the game:
"Our focus was not to let them get a long pass. That would have hurt us. But we gained a little momentum in the end of the game. I'm sure that would have carried over to overtime. But I liked out chances with nine seconds left."

On the technical foul:
"As soon as I knew Chandice was going to take the free throws, my first reaction was that we just won the game. I have no questions in my mind that she would miss those shots."

On the importance of the win:
""Every win is so important and we had built a good momentum at the end of the game. We didn't play as well as we would have liked, but we pulled off the victory and we need to play well on Saturday against San Francisco."

Senior Jen Gottschalk
On the final seconds of the game:
"I was right there when Rego called the timeout. I was confident that the officials would make the right call. I wasn't nervous at all. Out of anyone, I knew Chandice would make those free throws."

Senior Chandice Cronk
On being at the free throw line in that final second:
"I really like to shoot free throws when I have to make them. I knew I only need to make one and I made both."

On the problems the team faced during the game:
"We lacked the intensity on defense. We weren't as together as we should have been. When we are together, we win games."

On the importance of the win:
"We just came off two huge wins on the road and to have a home win is always important. Last season we lost both times to San Diego. I hope that this win jump starts us for the rest of the season."
