Cronk Named WCC Player Of The Week

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara women's basketball guard Chandice Cronk was named the West Coast Conference's Player of the Week it was announced Monday. The senior's weekend total of 41 points and a perfect free throw percentage guided the Broncos to a 2-0 week with victories over San Diego and San Francisco at home.

Cronk enjoyed an outstanding week, propelling the Broncos to a pair of conference wins at home. The senior scored 26 points in Thursday's 66-64 win over San Diego, shooting. 500 (9-for-18) from the field and sinking two free throws with one second on the clock to provide the difference. On Saturday, Cronk pitched in with 15 points, three rebounds and two steals as the Broncos topped San Francisco, 57-50, to improve to 4-1 in WCC play. For the week, Cronk averaged 20.5 points per game, and shot a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe.

On the season, the Wasilla, Alaska native leads the Broncos with 17.2 points per game and 53 three-point field goals made. In the WCC, she is ranked fourth overall in scoring, second in 3FGs made, fifth in free throw percentage and sixth in 3FG percentage. Earlier this season, Cronk became the 17th Bronco to reach 1,000 career points as she tallied 18 against Washington State on Nov. 13.

Cronk and Santa Clara continue WCC play this week as they travel to Portland and Gonzaga. The Broncos and Pilots face off on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m., while SCU and the Zags battle on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 2 p.m. in Spokane, Wash.
